Learn the 3-2 son clave rhythm: 1-&-a-3-4 (5 hits across 2 bars). Play this rhythm using only Eb chord tones, but add passing tones on any unused 16th note subdivisions. The clave hits must ring clearly while passing tones are staccato. Practice for 8 bars total.
Tip: Clave is the backbone of Latin music. When you can phrase over clave, you unlock rhythmic sophistication that goes beyond rock and blues.
