Play melody phrases in groups of 3 notes against a 4/4 pulse. Each group of 3 should contain one note from the F major triad (F-A-C) and resolve every 4 groups back to F on beat 1. Think melodically, not mathematically - let the phrases breathe despite the odd grouping.
Tip: Complex rhythms serve melody, not the other way around. If it doesn't sound musical, simplify until it sings.
